iRacing General Discussion
Here is the main place for all discussion on things on iRacing such as:
- Newly purchased cars and tracks
- PC and Equipment
- Plans for 2014
- Signature Requests
- Sponsorship
And others! I'm currently awaiting for a reply from Sim Racing Hardware™. Once we get a few sponsors and partners I'll get in contact with one of the main painters e.g. James Petty or Matthew Nethercode.

Make sure you avoid deleting posts mate, just "split" them from the current thread into a newly named thread (i.e Application [rubbish]) and move to the forum bin.

Re: iRacing General Discussion
You start off in two rookie series. The Oval one is Street Stock racing like this:
And there's the Mazda Cup which features Mazda MX-5's here:
Theres different routes to take. Some people want to get to the highest level cars as fast as possible and some people work their way up very slowly. I'd personally get out of the Rookie Mazdas as soon as possible and race something with cleaner racing. The Series Licenses go like this:
D Class
Mustang FR500-S
iRacing Global Challenge (Kia Optima Touring Car and Cadillac CTS-VR)
Grand Touring Cup (Jetta, MX5 and Solstice)
Skip Barber Formula 2000
Spec Racer Ford
C Class
Formula Star Mazda
Grand-Am (Daytona Prototype and McLaren MP4-12C)
Lotus 49
Radical SR8
Ford V8 Supercar
B Class
Prototype & GT Challenge (HPD ARX 01c, Corvette GT1, Ford GT)
IndyCar Road
Lotus 79
A Class
Williams F1 (Highest and most competitive series on iRacing since everyone is running for Pro where broadcasts and prize money is)
Pro
Top 30 drivers from F1 Seasons in 2013 go to the pro series, top 25 are qualified for the World Championship and $1500 for first place)
World Championship
Highest form of racing in iRacing where 50 drivers compete for $10,500 in prize money. Greger Huttu (worlds fastest sim-racer is triple champion) and Hugo Luis is 1 Time World Champion.

The thing is, and I don't want to put you off it, is that some cars are popular with Australians and Americans and not with Europeans. If races have less than 8 drivers they don't count towards the championship and in Euro times the V8 Supercar and Mustang rarely has participation. Usually the V8 Supercar races happen at 1-3am our time and same with the Mustang. It sucks but nearly every other car has lots of Europeans racing it.
I'm racing the Formula Star Mazda at the moment. Its really good fun and is a good car to prepare for the F1 Car which is extremely hard to drive and set-up.

Re: iRacing General Discussion
I didn't really start off very well for my first 100 races. I just tried to get an A License ASAP and lost a lot of iRating. iRating is basically how well you finish. If you finish in the top half of a race you gain iRating and if you finish in the bottom half you lose iRating. I did lots of races just hanging at the back and racing clean to get up a license. I learned what iRating was and mine was 683 which is very poor.
I started to race for positions and now I'm in the 3000's. The average is about 2000 and very fast people are in between 4000-7000. You gain about 60 for finishing well. Every time you spin, go off the track or crash you get an incident point(s). If you get a lot your License Rating will go down. Its all kind of hard to explain when you haven't signed up yet. There's a sporting code and regulations that'll fill you in

Re: iRacing General Discussion
The best thing to do in rookies is not race anyone especially if that person is usually taking people out (accidentally). Once out of rookie then you can race people because most people in D-class as good, clean racers. I was fortunate that even while racing hard, i didn't really get taken out

Jay you want to get some practice laps in for either Gilles Villeneuve or Zandvoort?
Re: iRacing General Discussion
The RUF RT-12 is due to be released before 2014. It's not a Porsche but it looks epic anyway. They're releasing a Cup, GT and a 4WD version of it as well as iRacing have signed a deal with Holden to scan Jamie Whincup's V8SC from this year's season.

The RUF and Autoclub Speedway have just been released.

Re: iRacing General Discussion
They're pretty awesome! The racer version is called the "RT 12 R Track" and then there's the C-Spec (GTS/GT4) and the RWD (Road car). The one bad thing is that all cars have street interior with leather seats and stuff so neither cars feel full on race prepared. The Track is really fun though, it's as fast as a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 so I'd say that's what it'll be competing with in future series.
Re: iRacing General Discussion
Nice
Though I saw some onboard from the 12 R Track and it looked like it had race interior. At least more so than the others.

Re: iRacing General Discussion
I was in an RUF race for the iR staff for a tutorial video and was set to win $10 but of course I get punted by a rookie who shouldn't be even there.... Honestly. As a word of warning to everyone who's looking at joining, if there is prize money up for grabs literally they will PIT you out of their way to get it. Now I know why the Pro Series drivers are always complaining in the F1 series
Re: iRacing General Discussion
I'm just deadly excited to get going on iRacing. Should be up in Jan or early Feb at latest. Been watching iRacing vids for quite a long time don't know why I haven't started earlier. Happy to see LMR is building an iRacing branch of the club.
